Dr. Winegard is a multi-time best-selling author, exceptional historian, and beloved professor. One of his latest publications (2024), “The Horse: A Galloping History of Humanity”, covers the sweeping story of the horse’s emergence on the world stage and the vast, lasting impacts of their legacy within human history. Dr. Winegard’s writing is comprehensive yet approachable by horse-people and non-horse-people alike, making it wonderfully accessible to anyone interested in how horses shaped humanity.
The inspiration for this interview began as part of our ongoing Akhal-Teke horse film project, but the conversations shared encompassed so much more. Dr. Winegard’s findings greatly highlight the importance of learning about and preserving our collective horse heritage.
We are so grateful to Dr. Winegard for sharing his thoughts with us and we greatly look forward to sharing more insights with the horse community, especially as they pertain to our rare breeds: the Akhal-Teke horse and the Chaar Appaloosa.
“…one unbreakable bond remains constant: horses are not truly horses without humans, and humans are not truly humans without horses…”
