In an interview with the Daily Sabah last week, Petek Çağlar (@gardennhorses, an Akhal-Teke breeder in Türkiye) shared some of her experiences with the breed.
Petek emphasized that the character of the breed is what truly captured her, saying the Akhal-Teke “forms a bond with humans unlike anything I have seen in other breeds. It is sensitive but not fragile, extremely brave and sees obstacles not as something to fear but as problems to solve.” This deep connection and mind-melding is something that also founded our love for the breed, and we experience it every day with our own Tekes.
Petek also echoed the versatility of the breed, sharing that “A lot of breeds specialize in one area… The Akhal-Teke is one of the rare breeds that can do all disciplines.” This is one reason why, although the Akhal-Teke is capable of performing to high levels in many sports (Grand Prix and Olympics), they can also be wonderful partner horses for the amateur or junior rider who wants to explore a number of sports.
